OPEN for Global Goals

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all. These 17 interconnected goals address critical issues such as climate change, education, inequality, sustainable consumption, peace, and justice. They emphasize that tackling one issue often requires addressing others, fostering a holistic approach to global challenges.

The SDGs provide a shared framework for making informed, sustainable choices to improve lives for future generations. They encourage global collaboration and inclusivity, tackling the root causes of poverty and uniting people across the world to create positive change for both humanity and the planet.

Education plays a vital role in achieving the SDGs by fostering a one planet worldview—an understanding of the interconnectedness of global systems and the need for sustainable, equitable solutions. OPEN contributes to this mission by engaging educators, learners, and communities in advancing the SDGs through educational initiatives and partnerships. In the past, OPEN has collaborated with parts of the UN system, such as the UN Global Compact, the SDSN, and the SDG Action Campaign, actively promoting the integration of the SDGs into learning and teaching to inspire systemic change and global citizenship.

OPEN has a mission to advance the One Planet worldview across education platforms and networks worldwide.
